Something smoky, with Scotch

Andy’s drinkfrom an essay

Penicillin

  • 2 oz blended Scotch
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz honey-ginger syrup
  • ¼ oz Islay single malt, floated

Shake the first three, strain over a big cube, float the Islay. Candied ginger.

Why this one

Sam Ross’s two-layer classic, from the endnote to my essay Production Memory. The smoke is a quarter-ounce Islay float: you nose it first, and the body follows behind it.

It learns your taste

Rate what you made; next day it asks once how it went.

Every pour is labeled

You always know whose drink it is.

AI helps match and explain. The drinks and the rules are mine, and each one carries one of four labels.
